Raymond J. LaVoie
Director of Vocations
Diocese of Harrisburg
Currently, Father Raymond J. LaVoie is the Director of Vocations
for the Diocese of Harrisburg.
Born in 1973 in the Bronx, New York, Father LaVoie
spent most of his growing up years in Camp Hill, PA and attended
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg. He initially majored
in Psychology and Criminal Justice at Shippensburg University.
During his college
years, Father LaVoie began to answer the call to priesthood
during a retreat at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary. Before
our Lord’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament, a desire

He applied as a candidate for the Diocese of Harrisburg and
continued his college studies at the Josephinum College Seminary
in Columbus, OH.
In 1996, Bishop Nicholas Dattilo sent him to Rome to study
Theology. Father LaVoie completed an S.T.B. degree in Theology
in 2000 and an S.T.L. degree in Sacramental Theology in 2001.
Father LaVoie was ordained a priest by Bishop Nicholas Dattilo
at St. Patrick Cathedral, Harrisburg in July of 2000 and took
his first parish assignment at St. Joan of Arc Church in Hershey,
PA.
In 2002, Father LaVoie was sent on a new assignment as campus
minister to Millersville University and Franklin and Marshall
College.
In 2005, Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades appointed Father LaVoie as
Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Harrisburg.
He enjoys studying theology, reading, the beach, and playing
all kinds of sports, especially ice hockey, football and tennis.
